Day 9 Korea Cross Country Cycle Route
Yeonpung to Mungyeong
Biggest Hill Climb Day
Today we tackled Ihwaryeong Pass, one kilometre of warm-up, then up we went for a continuous five kilometres. Luckily the morning air was coolish, and we made it to the top without pushing.
After a rest, admiring the view, and Alex playing on the outdoor exercise equipment (?) we set off down, down, down. It was a bit sad to watch all that hard work disappear so quickly.
It's a public holiday, so the shops were closed, but we found a fruit stall selling local apples. They were huge, and became lunch.
Next was the Omija Theme Tunnel. We locked up the bikes and wandered through, admiring the variety of art/animation inside. Then came the stone walkway, uphill again, to Gomosanseong Fortress. The wall is amazing and we walked along it to the South Gate with great views back down into the valley.
Back on our bikes we rolled downhill into Mungyeong, where we saw a rather large book shelf.
It's Chuseok Holiday (3 days of public holidays) and not much is open, so tonight's dinner was a heat-in-microwave takeaway from a convenience store. The picture on the box and reality didn't quite match but it filled the tummy.😀
Another amazing, beautiful day of cycling.
