Day 25 – Korea Cycle Route
Seomjingang Bike Path Begins
First, a quick flashback to Day 24. I needed to see a doctor about a UTI, so we headed to a medical clinic, only to be told I needed a urology clinic. Of course, it was a public holiday and the urology clinic was closed. We also had to change hotels, so we ended up sitting on a park bench for three hours in between. It turned out to be the most relaxing day we'd had in Korea. 😀
Now to today, first up was the urology clinic. It was a bit of a palaver using a translation app to explain my issue with the non-English-speaking reception staff (fair enough, I'm in Korea). They tried to send me back to a regular medical clinic. In the end they took pity on me and I was able to see a doctor, who to my great relief and gratitude, spoke some English. I walked out with a script for antibiotics. Yay!
Then it was a quick dash back to the hotel, grab the bikes and head for the bus station. We got tickets to the Seomjingang Rest Area, but the bus was leaving in 5 minutes! So a mad rush to find the bus (there's 25 departure lanes) unpack the bikes, front wheels off, and load them into a bus. Teamwork, and a bit of crawling inside the bus luggage compartment, got us on our way.
Two hours later we did it all in reverse, putting everything back together before cycling 7km to the start of the Seomjingang bike path. We found the start stamp booth, got the photo, and then rode all of 4km to our hotel for the night.
On the way to dinner we came across a saxophonist playing to an audience on the side of the street. We were invited to take a seat and join in. Dinner was at a restaurant overlooking the water. The nearby bridge was lit up in changing colours.
After dinner we visited a 24-hour unmanned convenience store: walk in, choose your items, self-serve pay, no staff at all. How great to have such an honest society where that's possible!
Tomorrow we start riding properly along the Seomjingang Cycle Path.
