Day 16: Korea Cross Country Cycle Route
Guemosan Mountain

A day off the bikes today, so we thought we would have an easy day: cable car up the mountain, a 7.5km walk, cable car back down. Relaxing, right? Maybe we should have checked the walk elevation first. 😅
The cable car only goes part of the way, which left us with 900 metres of walk elevation over 4 kilometres. Hundreds, if not thousands, of steps, mostly uneven rock stairs and tree roots. So much for an easy day!
But wow, the scenery was worth it!

🌲 Harunsa Temple, set in the forest, was just stunning.

🪨 A narrow path cut into the cliffside led us to a cave.

💧 Daehye waterfall was only trickling, but still pretty.

🙏 Many stone cairns on a rocky platform, built by a grandfather as a memorial to his deceased grandson, took our breath away.

🧘 A Buddha etched into a huge rock wall dates back 1,000 years.

🏯 Yaksaam Temple, perched right on the cliff edge, astounded us.

We finally reached the summit at 1:30pm and had lunch with fantastic views over Gumi City, the surrounding mountains and the river.

The walk back down to the cable car tested our knees, and I refused any more steps for the day. Back at the hotel we collapsed onto the bed. Luckily we have microwavable dinners, because I'm not going anywhere tonight. I'm sure some ibuprofen will be in order before bed.

Another amazing day in Korea.
