Day 14: Korea Cross Country Cycle Route
Jibo to Nakdong
Another fantastic cycling day jam-packed with variety. We started with burial mounds, then continued cycling through rice fields and along riverside boardwalks. The Sanju Bike Museum was an interesting stop, with a great history of bicycles. Then it was on through paths strewn with autumn leaves. We even spotted some different animal and nature themed accommodation at a campground.
Next up was a fountain bridge leading to Gyeongcheon Island Park, and we were lucky enough to catch it running. Lunch was on the island, and we cycled around it, admiring the beautiful trees and flowers. Trackside we found a funky bicycle-shaped toilet, just before visiting a historic Confucian Academy.
In the early afternoon we rode alongside the river, with dramatic cliffs on the far bank. Rice was being harvested in the fields as we passed. We called in to the Nakdong River History Museum and had a go at its interactive boat experience, which was a laugh. The Nakdong Weir gave us beautiful views to finish the day.
We're staying in Nakdong tonight. We wandered out to a lovely little local restaurant and paid $9 each for a smorgasbord meal. Not bad at all!
