Isla Gorge campsite is majestically perched overlooking a landscape of rocky outcrops, caves and gorges of the national park.
Arriving at lunchtime on a drizzle-filled day with severe storms forecast we set up camp back from the front nestled in amongst sparse trees. By 2pm the skies had cleared and we went for a short walk. Initially, the plan was just along the cliff top, but Alex decided the cliff line below was too interesting to not take a look. So after a bit of scrambling down, we meandered along the cliffs exploring caves, overhangs and rocky outcrops. The colours were truly spectacular.
Instead of retracing our steps, we headed across the valley and up the ridge to meet up with the short track from the campsite.
In all a short walk but a great introduction to Isla Gorge National Park.
