 Enoggera Reservoir Pipeline Tunnel

Today we went in search of a piece of Brisbane history, as part of our walk . In 1928 a pipeline was built between Brisbane's two reservoirs - Enoggera & Gold Creek. A tunnel (approx 400m) was built to house part of the pipeline. We visited both ends of the tunnel.

Parking at Highwood Rd we took a southern loop, collecting a Geocache along the way.

Making our way up the Tunnel Trail we found parts of the old pipeline.

The southern entrance of the pipeline tunnel is easily visited beside the trail. It's not recommended to enter the tunnel even though it's possible. Apparently it is a bat roosting area, along with the fact that sections of the tunnel roof have collapsed.

In the nearby creek further evidence of the project can be found.

Following the trail up to South Boundary Rd we then headed off-track in search of the northern tunnel entrance.

Our first find was a large turkey mound!

Finding the tunnel entrance was harder and involved some pushing through lantana before dropping into the via-duct.

A short way along we found the tunnel entrance. Once again it's not recommended to enter the tunnel.

Leaving here we followed the opposite spur up to South Boundary Road.

But, we weren't the only ones out here today. It's always great to see these majestic lizards.

We then walked a northern loop walk past Enoggera Reservoir where we lunched beside the water, before returning to our car.

An interesting walk exploring part of Brisbane's past.
